About BRIAN ROONEY

THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD THAT LED FROM VIETNAM TO A MISSION TO HONOR ALL VETERANS

MY History

The Enormous Task of locating, cataloging and monitoring veterans’ memorials in America began in 1970 during the heat of battle near a medivac helipad in Vietnam, with a young Army medic named Brian Rooney. Approaching a helicopter to provide medical assistance to the wounded, Brian came upon an American GI who was gravely wounded. Presuming that the soldier was dead, Brian bent over the body to get the GI’s name. Suddenly, the soldier came to, grabbed Brian’s shirt, pulled him close and uttered his last words; “Remember me…” Haunted by the face of that dying soldier and moved by his last words, Brian has dedicated the past eleven years in developing an eternal library that recognizes those soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country. “Remember Me” is an initiative to provide such a library using state-of-the-art technologies so that all Americans can and will remember t~ose who gave their lives for our freedom.
